  • 3 2/3 cups bread flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/3 cup whole milk (room temperature)

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar (packed)

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 2 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons apple butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling by cooking diced apples with apple butter, sugar, water, lemon juice, cinnamon, and vanilla extract until slightly softened.
  2. For the dough, create tangzhong by mixing warm water with bread flour; combine this with additional ingredients in a stand mixer and knead until smooth.
  3. Allow the dough to rise in a warm place until it doubles in size (about an hour).
  4. Roll out the dough, spread softened butter and sprinkle brown sugar mixed with cinnamon on top; evenly distribute apple filling before rolling into a log and slicing into individual rolls.
  5. Let the rolls rise again for about 30 minutes before baking in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 30 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Prepare cream cheese frosting while rolls cool slightly; spread over each roll once they have cooled enough.
