  • 3/4 pound extra lean ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 (15-ounce) can chopped stewed tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 (15-ounce) can pinto beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan over medium heat, brown the ground beef with the minced garlic and chopped onion for about 10 minutes.
  2. Stir in the chopped stewed tomatoes, beef broth, chili powder, ground cumin, dried oregano, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.
  3. Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer for one hour while occasionally stirring.
  4. After an hour, add the rinsed pinto beans and salt. Cook for another 15 minutes before serving.
